The hats of Subaru
Why does this hat remind me of an old fashioned nurse? If I could get that image out of my head I'd say this hat suits Subaru. There's a little cross on it that fits with his image. Also, it seems there are air vents on the side or something. I suppose that's to make sure Subaru's hair gets enough air? It sits high up on his head so I image it would either have to be clipped on or it would fly off very easily. That's ok, he has plenty of string on hand to tie it down. This hat belongs in Seishirou's kinky box for when he wants to play pretend with Subaru.
For some reason this hat makes me think of something France, but I can't quite place it. With the ribbon and button it almost looks like someone was trying to make a Christmas present out of Subaru. Whatever it is it's probably meant for special occasions. It's large and would probably be too difficult to wear on just any night. If it wasn't so large this hat might belong in a hat box in the closet. With how big it looks it'd probably just have to be on top of the other hat boxes though.
A little postal cap with as he delivers an important package. It's cute, I like postal caps for some reason. This one has a little crown symbol on the front, and inside a few of the pictures have crowns as well. I wonder if it's symbolizing something? Sumeragi does mean emperor of Japan, but on a postal cap? Whatever it means, it's the perfect happy looking hat for an adorable scene. This hat should be in Hokuto's toy box for when she and Subaru play together.
One of Subaru's pastor hats. This one is a simple gray. I wonder if Hokuto-chan would really approve of him wearing such a bland color? He has a very serious face on, this must be for one of his jobs. Not one of his fancier hats, but it is a nice style. Here's a hat Subaru might want to hang up in case of emergencies.
I have no idea where this one would come from. Wherever it's from, it's an interesting style. The black and red go well together, and the little gold clip compliments it well too. Another one of those hats that probably wouldn't stick to his head very well given a test of wind. If Subaru put this hat on his desk he could use it as a pedastal for his favorite resin statue.
I'm probably overlooking something obvious, but this makes me think of a Chinese floppy hat. Don't know why. It is similar, at least. Quite frankly I think this one is good for a giggle but not for a fashion show. It looks like some chef put his hat in the wash with his red shirt! This hat belongs to someone else, and Subaru should give it back immediately. Don't take other people's hats Subaru! Bad Subaru!
Here's a beauty. Little Subaru is trying to attract bees. He has his flowers, his costume (to trick them!) and some nice bright colors. With the way the colors interchange it looks a bit like a beretta styled hat. All in all, an interesting effect that goes well with Subaru's hair color. He looks like an adorable little puppy here. This hat should be with Subaru's gardening supplies so that he can attract every insect in the world as he gardens.
One of Subaru's favorites, along with it's red comrade shown below. Subaru is shown with this hat many times, including in the anime. This looks a bit like the pastor hats he wears, but the top is flat. It's closer to a Spanish styled hat (no, not a sombrero). Might sound random, but the Porteguese did run across Japan and had an influence on their culture a long time ago. Perhaps they brought hats with them? Either way, it's a nice hat for Subaru. It isn't too plain or too fancy. Of the two I prefer the red one though. This hat should be on Subaru's hat rack so that he can grab it and run out in an emergency. It'll match most things and looks decent!
This appears to be a 70's style sequin hat or something similar. It's in synch with how most his clothes seem outdated or "Hokutofied". Blue might not be a complimentary color for this hat. It works fine for the little wizard outfit Hokuto-chan has on, but a short little hat doesn't have the same effect. It'd probably look better in a normal brown color or something not so flashy. This one should be kept nice and neat in a hat box for Subaru to wear when Hokuto feels like playing with his clothes.
Presenting Subaru, the matador! At first glance it may look like the same sort of cuteness the postal cap had. However, this hat isn't as sturdy, the front part is wilting just a tad. It also looks to be almost sloppily put on or tilted. With this 'come and get me' sort of look on a young boy like Subaru it has a sort of charm. Much like when a tiny kitten tries to nibble off someone's fingers. There's no point in putting this one in a hat box since it's fairly flimsy, so Subaru could just set this on top of something.
Doesn't Subaru look to be the cocky one here? Apparently with some see-through earcovers he's suddenly all that. The hat by itself looks rather plain. It probably wouldn't look interesting at all alone, other than the very messy square-shape it makes. The ear covers provide something new though. It reminds me of something Arabian if you ignored the hat. When put together, we have this odd little number. This hat should go to Hokuto because she wants to wear it backwards for her wedding day.
If it was pointing up instead of sideways I could called this a magician's hat. It has the basic feel of one, with the exaggerated length and the costume that goes with it. Green is a different color to see Subaru in. It looks nice. Perhaps if the yellow was more of an orange it'd look even better. If nothing else, it does match his eyes. An evil magician once owned this hat and he wants it back, so I suggest Subaru bury it.
A captain's hat. A pink one. I bet Subaru was able to get this one pretty cheap. While it has it's charm and no one can resist playing with the captain's hat (as you can see Subaru is doing), this isn't something he'd wear if he wanted to be taken seriously. Actually, it isn't something he'd want to wear if he didn't want to get beat up walking to the grocery store. I'd say this is one of those hats most boys would die before wearing. Subaru needs to give this hat to Seishirou, that way Seishirou can cruelly place this hat on their enemies and they'll undoubtedly be beaten to a pulp by the end of an hour.
Here's a flat top hat that looks like Subaru has to hold in order to keep it on. When I first saw this it reminded me of a Vietnamese hat, the main difference being that the Vietnamese hat is more of a circlet that goes around the head without a top. The circle designing the outer rim looks a little strange when really thinking about it. A little design going around the edge would have probably looked better than a simple ring. In the middle is the 'subtle' drawing of a clock. Perhaps Subaru is running out of time? This should be kept in a hat box so that it doesn't get ruined.
Another hat that's similar but smaller than the second and fifth hats. This one looks more managable than the other two. That black in the front is a buckle going around it. I wonder what that's for? It's an unusual design, I haven't seen many hats with random buckles. Like a few of the others Subaru should get another hat box for this one, to keep it neat and tidy for the special occasions he'd like to wear it.
Another one of Subaru's pastor hats. This one is white and actually has a light gray stripe across it. In reality this might be an oddity, I don't recall seeing any pastor caps that were white. Despite it's plain look it does go well with Subaru. Sometimes it's the simple things that work the best. This definitely belongs in a hat box in the closet. It's a nice hat to wear sometimes, should be kept neat, but it's not something Subaru would have to have immediately.
Subaru's favorite hat of all time! Of course everyone who knows Subaru has probably seen this hat. It appears in both OVAs and is one of the accessories to his favorite outfit. He works in this hat, he eats in this hat, he sleeps in this hat, he goes to the bathroom in this hat... Like the one above it probably has a distance Porteguese influence, but in my opinion the black and red looks better. Yellow is such a bright and cheery color that it can be irritating when it looks out of place, and Tokyo Babylon has a lot of depressing content (here's a hint for life, don't wear yellow to job interviews. You look too dang happy, more gloomy people are really irked by it). This hat belongs on Subaru's head at all times!
This looks like a biggles styled hat. It's cut off at the top of the picture so it's hard to see it well. Why do so many anime characters have a fascination with goggles? Anyway, it's a good hat for dressing up but I can't see Subaru walking into a restaurant wearing it. I keep thinking he's trying to pass himself off as a pilot here. Hokuto and Seishirou should keep this hat hostage, because whoever wears the goggles is always the main character.
